God Never Said That: “It Doesn’t Matter What You Believe”
Posted by Steve Kindt
Aren’t all religions pretty much the same? Do all roads lead to God? Jesus doesn’t seem very inclusive. After all, it doesn’t really matter what you believe, as long as you’re sincere. What does God say?

“It’s none of your business how I live if I’m not hurting anyone.” It sounds right. Except it’s wrong. Sin has consequences. And a life with sin is not the life that God wants for you. He can offer so much more.

God Never Said That: “God Won’t Give You More Than You Can Handle”

God will never give you more than you can handle. This is a well meaning phrase that tries to ensure people that life will never get too hard for you. But God never said that. We always need God’s help in our lives and especially when the storms come. It’s only when we stop trying to “handle” our trials on our own that we truly experience the presence and power of God.

GOD WANTS YOU HAPPY! We love offering little nuggets of advice, support, or sympathy. They come in handy when we want to help people feel better. But what if the guidance we’re giving or receiving just isn’t true. What if God never said that. Maybe God doesn’t want you to pursue happiness, he wants you to pursue Him.

In Philippians 3, Paul makes it sound like we can feel joy whenever we want to. And how is “Rejoicing in the Lord” a safeguard for us? Sounds like something we may need to know as we begin another trip around the sun.

It’s amazing when we think about WHY Jesus came to earth. But let’s not ignore the significance of HOW he came to earth. It gives us a challenging picture of how we can participate in the Christmas story every day.

Does it seem random to you that the God of all the universe would send a heavenly angel choir in all of its glory to announce the coming of the King of Heaven to earth to a bunch of hired hands in the middle of nowhere? Yeah, me too. But maybe it’s not as weird as it seems.

Rethinking Christmas: “Slow Down and Stay Focused”

We need to slow down enough to be able to experience God in our lives. It’s hard all year, but it seems even harder during the Christmas season. The story of Joseph gives some insight into what it looks like to live a life that honors God so much, that God would choose that life to make a big difference.

Christmas is a time of giving. Does that also mean it’s a time of shopping? Giving is a beautiful act of love and sharing…sometimes. Let’s give like the meaningfully and with an attitude of worship.

It’s easy to experience disappointment and regret. Sometimes those feelings can be overwhelming. Scripture does give us some great advise (Life Hack) for how to deal with those feelings. Thanksgiving is a great time to be reminded of how our attitude impacts our emotions. Be Thankful.
